Sonia North is an incredible sculptor, she creates the most intricate, flowing wood carvings, often incorporating rusted found metal objects such as nails.
Born in South London in 1967 Sonia North was adopted and raised in the coastal town of Emsworth Hampshire. Her childhood summers were spent every year on the family’s working Croft on the West Coast of Scotland. This landscape will always have an influence and remain a constant source of inspiration.
She graduated with a BA degree from Portsmouth University after studying Illustration. Realising that her passion really lay with the physical form after seeing Brancusi’s sculptures. Sonia started carving in wood giving her the opportunity to express her emotions organically as only a natural medium can.
These honest and unique forms are ever evolving with a range of emotions both personal and subjective.
As a member of the Surrey Sculpture Society, she wants to take time now promoting her work to a wider audience.
