For Smile, Autumnal Rebirth is a reminder that endings are rarely endings at all. The driftwood, shaped by years of wind and sea, carries the memory of its journey. Fragments of discarded metal and a worn leather jacket are transformed into flowers and fungi, each element finding a new purpose beyond the one for which it was first created.
Autumn is often seen as a season of decline, yet it is also a season of preparation, change, and renewal. In this work, flowers bloom from weathered wood and mushrooms rise from forgotten places, celebrating nature's ability to reclaim, restore, and begin again. The mother-of-pearl centres catch and reflect the light, like small moments of hope discovered along life's path.
Smile understands that transformation is rarely a straight line. Autumnal Rebirth reflects his belief that we are never defined by what has been lost, only by what we choose to become next. Like the materials from which it is made, the sculpture speaks of resilience, reinvention, and the quiet beauty of a second life
