Jane McDonald is a fantastic local print artist, working in monoprint and Chine Colle.
Jane McDonald has been a member of the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative for over 20 years. During that time, she has developed her ideas through printmaking processes that enable her to create layers of pattern and colour reflecting her interest in the natural world and structure. Before working in printmaking, having taken a Master’s degree at the Royal College of Art in ceramics and glass, Jane worked on commissions for public and private buildings, and she enjoyed the collaborative aspect of bringing projects to fruition. Locally her work can be seen at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford (west doors), and Dorchester Abbey (entrance glass doors and panels). She enjoys teaching and has taught design in art colleges and latterly at secondary level in schools.
Monoprinting is a direct way of working on an inked plate and allows for spontaneous results, combining printmaking with painting and drawing. The plate can go through the press several times, building up layers of pattern and colour. With the addition of Chine Collé (pre-printed thinner papers) exciting effects are created adding to the complexity of the print.
