More information: Arizona, c. 1999. Using a fragmented composition with cross-cutting geometric lines as in a number of other works on canvas and paper in this period, Coulouris addresses ecological themes in ways recalling Ecology Triptych and Vineyard. Bright cactuses dominate the foreground, while ancient ruins and pots in rich earth tones occupy other panels. Horizontally across the centre of the ground for maximum contrast run invasive straight and curving lines representing dynamic aspects of contemporary life in vibrant colours – a multi-lane motorway, airport runway and suspension bridge.
