Description: Painted in Coulouris’ studio in Hydra, Greece. In this group of apparently unconnected objects chosen in, and inspiring, the moment of capture, subtle humour abounds. The expertly depicted boat model in the foreground allows glimpses of a real harbour beyond in the window, where a similar sailing yacht is moored. While the fruit in the oval dish appears real, that in the stemmed dish to the left is likely some of the wooden fruit, including a half-avocado, depicted in Apple, Avocado, Watermelon (1995). Coulouris’ favoured perspective from above is adopted, in this richly interesting composition with strong purples and blues.
