Description: Hoar Frost, 1979. One of a series of steelplate etchings, Coulouris’ main medium during the 1970s, in which she polished her expertise to its peak. This example atypically uses only one monochrome colour, reflecting the wintry quality of the day. Vegetational elements take on an exaggerated form and are already foregrounded, as in later prints and paintings, while the artist’s assured skills in drawing and perspective confidently depict this isolated Scottish vernacular house in Linlithgow, near Edinburgh.
