More information: View from a Balcony (Red Leaves), 2000. This acrylic from Coulouris’ period on the island of Hydra uses her composition and drawing skills to great effect to underpin the vibrant colours inspiring her in this period. In a distorted perspective, the railings of a balcony intersect the horizon line to create panels, contained by the balcony itself at the bottom of the picture. The organic shapes of red-leaved trees spill across these frames, dappled with light: the tones of central frame of the scene suggest it is seen through glass. Across the bay, glimpses of an island or headland appear.
