Description: Nature and human activity combine to create one of my favourite landforms. This Holloway or Hollow at Halnaker in West Sussex is a small section of an ancient Roman road called Stane Street which linked London with nearby Chichester. The heavy passage of horse drawn carts, animal droving and human footfall have worn the lane downwards through erosion over long periods of time, as the lane sunk, the bushes and trees that line it grow upwards and over the lane, creating this wonderful tunnel effect.
