Description: Flowers Against Yellow, 2006. Characterised like many of Coulouris’ works by its striking composition, with the object focus entirely on one side, this striking watercolour uses acrylic to intensify the colour and light typically driving her still life scenes. Yellow was one of Coulouris’ favourite colours, with van Gogh a lifelong hero. Here, uniquely in her work, the colour is allowed full rein as a semiabstract background, while complex shadow and the two juxtaposed horizon planes help to contain and heighten its power.
