Description: Union Canal, 1987. Living as a young woman in north London near the Regent’s Canal, Coulouris had a long fascination with canals as arteries of industrial working life which also hold an important role in natural ecosystems. Her studio in Linlithgow, Scotland, was directly adjacent to a very attractive part of the Union Canal linking Glasgow and Edinburgh. Here green ink tones are used very effectively to create a poster-like image where water, full-summer trees and reflections become blocks of green light and shade over the skilfully etched lines.
