Description: Vineyard, 2001. In this Greek work Coulouris boldly abstractifies a kaleidoscope of images around mythic themes of fertility, destruction and decay. A curved horizon suggests the fruitful earth. Weeds take on an exaggerated size and threatening look: a tree is lightning-struck. The human buildings and machinery in the background including the ruined cistern in the centre are set against a turbid night-time, fire-stricken background, contrasting with the sunlit, cool and airy sense of the fruit and watercourse depicted the left.
